In 1985, Peter Kleinschmidt, President of Stiles Machinery Inc., envisioned a special sales division focused on supplying equipment for small-to medium-sized woodworking shops. The basic tool needed for the smaller shop was a sliding table saw. Joining forces with W. Altendorf Maschinenbau in Germany, manufacturer of the leading sliding table saw sold in Europe, Altendorf America was launched into the U.S. market.
